Brian Smith, D.O.

Dr. Brian M. Smith is a fellowship-trained ophthalmologist with subspecialty expertise in cornea, external disease, cataract, and refractive surgery. Dr. Smith brings exceptional academic training and surgical experience to his patients, with a particular focus on the full spectrum of anterior segment disease.

Dr. Smith studied Neuroscience at The University of Scranton, where he graduated with honors. At Scranton, he was inducted into multiple honors societies, participated in the International Service Program, and was a varsity lacrosse player. He went on to earn his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM), where he was elected to the medical honors society Sigma Sigma Phi and the Gold Humanism Honor Society in recognition of his compassionate approach to patient care.

Following medical school, Dr. Smith completed his ophthalmology residency training through PCOM at Lankenau Medical Center — a comprehensive, high-volume program that provided broad surgical and clinical experience — where he served as Chief Resident during his final year of training. He was selected by his instructors and peers to receive the City Avenue Physician Award and earned the Patrick Murray Award for having the highest in-service exam scores across the country. He subsequently completed a cornea and external disease fellowship at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, one of the most prestigious eye hospitals in the world, where he received advanced training in corneal transplantation, complex anterior segment surgery, ocular surface disease, premium cataract, and refractive surgery. He actively participates on the teaching staff of the Cornea Service at Wills Eye Hospital and at PCOM.

Dr. Smith is committed to providing each patient with personalized, high-quality eye care in a comfortable and accessible setting. He has been a big supporter of refractive surgery after having had LASIK himself and has been trusted by friends and other physicians to perform their laser vision correction surgery. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with his wife, son, and labradoodle, skiing, running, cheering on Philly sports, and relaxing at the Jersey shore.
